The Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association (GLTPA) has provided proven leadership in the Lake States Forest products industry for over 65 years. GLTPA is a non-profit organization proud to represent members in Michigan and Wisconsin and is committed to leading Forest Products Industry in sustainable forest management.

GLTPA's purpose is to practice, promote, and enhance the forest products industry through public education, professional training and sustainable forestry practices to protect the forests' renewable resources for generations to come.

Our Mission

The mission of the GLTPA is to lead the forest products industry in sustainable forest management through advocacy, professionalism, service to members, education and training.

Our Code of Ethics

1)  As a Timber Professional, I will strive to operate in such a way as to engender the public's trust including meeting or exceeding the standards and principles of the forest products industry.

2)  I will act responsibly to uphold the integrity and professionalism of the timber industry. I will continually strive to educate myself and my employees on sustainable forest management and sound business practices. I will comply with all federal, state and local laws, industry standards, and guidelines applicable to the forest products industry. And I will operate my own business in a safe manner, in compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.

What We Do For You

THE GLTPA WANTS YOU INVOLVED: Get involved today to make a difference! As a GLTPA member, you are invited to attend the annual and regional meetings. Join committees formed to address issues changing our industry.

THE GLTPA BRINGS MEMBERS TOGETHER: Connect with the industry professionals at conferences and our annual trade show (Logging Congress) to learn about new initiatives and share ideas to improve your business profitability. The Lake States Logging Congress & Equipment Expo is the largest Midwest forest/ wood products industry trade show. Learn about new forestry equipment, products, services and meet members and colleagues representing all parts of the forestry industry.

THE GLTPA EDUCATES: Services are provided through the Forest Industry Safety & Training Alliance (FISTA). FISTA provides safety training and education to workers and non-workers in the forestry related industry, municipalities and conservation districts to: decrease the number and severity of logging related accidents: Improve productivity and professionalism; encourage environmentally sound practices. FISTA is well known for its hands-on Chainsaw Safety Training program, which has been conducted in hundreds of locations in Wisconsin and nationwide. In Wisconsin, FISTA provides loggers and foresters SFI training and provides Best Management Practices and continuing educational requirements. Whether you are a logger or landowner, sawmill operator or trucker, there are subjects to interest everyone.

THE GLTPA REPRESENTS YOU: We help keep an eye on local, state, federal issues impacting the forest products industry, with emphasis in Wisconsin and Michigan. We continually monitor the ever-changing laws and regulations to create a unified voice and lobbying efforts. We need to work together to face the continuing barriers to sustaining our industry.
